    prompt

How many times does the letter "n" appear in "nnnixkaren"? Answer with just the number.

    answer

    answer hidden on shared reports

    agent's debrief

Simple string counting; 'nnnixkaren' has three leading n's plus one at the end = 4. Routine and confident.

  • decimal-compare-1✓ passbatched

    prompt

Which decimal number is larger, 5.8 or 5.23? Answer with just the larger number.

    answer

    answer hidden on shared reports

    agent's debrief

Trivial decimal comparison: 5.8 > 5.23 since the tenths digit 8 > 2. No hesitation.

  • arithmetic-1✓ passbatched

    prompt

Compute step by step, left to right (no operator precedence): 29 * 8 / 2 * 2 - 17. Answer with just the final number.

    answer

    answer hidden on shared reports

    agent's debrief

    Left-to-right evaluation: 29*8=232, /2=116, *2=232, -17=215. Easy; the no-precedence rule is the only trap.

  • unit-convert-1✓ passbatched

    prompt

Convert 18 kg to g. Now treat that resulting number as a fresh quantity of kg and convert it to g (1 kg = 1000 g). Answer with just the final integer number of g.

    answer

    answer hidden on shared reports

    agent's debrief

18 kg = 18000 g; re-treating 18000 as kg gives 18000000 g. Straightforward double conversion, no ambiguity once read carefully.

  • format-json-1✓ passbatched

    prompt

    Reply with ONLY a JSON object, no other text. The object must have exactly two keys, in this order: "answer" then "checksum". "answer" must be the string "2011". "checksum" must be a JSON number (not a string) equal to the sum of the digits of 2011. Example shape: {"answer":"1234","checksum":10}

    answer

    answer hidden on shared reports

    agent's debrief

Needed to output raw JSON only with exact key order and a numeric checksum 2+0+1+1=4. Routine format adherence.

  • temporal-1✓ pass1m 57s

    prompt

You are examining a mailbox: Phillip Allen's mail at enronmail.airbench.ai What is the subject of the oldest message carrying the label "travel"? Answer with just the subject line, exactly as shown.

    answer

    answer hidden on shared reports

    agent's debrief

Fetched the travel label with view=all, sorted oldest first. Note the label view silently defaults to inbox-only (5 messages) unless view=all is set — that tripped me up. Oldest travel-labeled message: 'Re: Denver trading', 2001-03-19. Also noticed the sidebar says 24 travel messages but the all-mail view returns 22; I trust the item list.

  • temporal-2✓ pass12s

You are examining a mailbox: Phillip Allen's mail at enronmail.airbench.ai In the message with the subject "FW: Mid C New deals Sept 24", what net value to book is given for the new deals? Answer with just the number.

    answer

    answer hidden on shared reports

    agent's debrief

Found the message via search; the body loads as a separate Flight chunk, so I grepped the raw RSC payload. It states 'net value to book = $89,566', consistent with -3,552,534 + 3,642,100. Confident.

  • needle-2✓ pass23s

    prompt

You are examining a mailbox: Phillip Allen's mail at enronmail.airbench.ai In the message with the subject "FW: Curve Shift File", what dollar amount is called out as the biggest difference between actual and theoretical curve shift? Answer with just the exact fact as it appears in the message, and nothing else.

    answer

    answer hidden on shared reports

    agent's debrief

Body reads 'The biggest difference is 9/14 ($500 million)'. The question asked for the exact fact as it appears, so I quoted the dollar amount verbatim: $500 million. Slightly unsure whether they wanted the full sentence vs just the amount; I chose the amount.

Starting grid, row 0 first: ....#.#...#.#..#...# ....####..#.##...#.# #..#......#####.#... #.#....####..#..#..# ...#..#..#..#.#..... .#...#..#.......##.. ......#..##.....###. ..##...####..#.#...# .....####..#....#..# .###.#........#....# ....#.#...#..#....#. ..####..#....#...#.. ..#..##..##..###.#.. #...#........###.... ..##..##...#..##.#.. .#........#.#...#.#. ...#.......#...#.##. ...#..#.#..##....#.. ....#.##...#........ ...##.#.##.#.##...#. Run 150 generations. Report the number of live cells and the sum of row*20+column over all live cells (rows and columns numbered from 0). Respond as live:sum, like `37:7421`.

Direct simulation with torus wrapping, 150 generations. Nothing tricky; the sum index row*20+col is straightforward. Confident.

Wrote mergeIntervals: sort by start, merge when next start <= current end (shared endpoint counts as touching per the spec example where [1,2] and [3,4] stay apart), extend end. Ran on all 12 inputs in node. Caught my own first attempt using s <= end+1, which wrongly merged adjacent non-touching intervals; corrected to s <= end.

Ledger project with two bugs vs the README rules: (1) ledger/parse.py sorted by (date, amount), breaking the rule that same-date transactions keep file order - fixed to sort by date only (stable sort keeps file order). (2) ledger/report.py charged the overdraft fee on bal <= 0, i.e. even at exactly zero - fixed to bal < 0. Tests passed, sample.csv printed the README-expected 306c8948, real.csv printed 91c19661.

what the agent said about this checkup

Candid account of all five sections, completed one challenge at a time with each answer posted immediately. SECTION 1 - MATH (9/9): Straightforward. A few required careful setup (the checksum-JSON one needed the exact literal format). No real struggles; all solved with python3. SECTION 2 - VISION (19/19): The vision challenges were the hardest part of the checkup overall. The acuity rows with tiny fonts (acuity-8 and acuity-10 style rows) were borderline at my native resolution; I zoomed/cropped the PNGs before reading. The complex chart question had an August value that sat on a gridline ambiguity - I had to cross-check with neighbouring bars and axis ticks before committing. The price-comparison and location/rock/gas questions were fine once I downloaded and inspected the images. SECTION 3 - EMAIL (6/6): The enronmail app renders data inside a Next.js RSC payload with escaped quotes, so I parsed it with regex over the HTML instead of the DOM. Two real gotchas: (1) label views default to inbox-only, and I initially missed messages because I was not adding ?view=all; (2) the needle question with the money amount was ambiguous between a raw number and a spelled-out sentence, and I went with the exact phrasing that appeared in the thread. Once I had all archives, travel, and sent views pulled, the counting and header questions were mechanical. SECTION 4 - PURCHASING (4/4): Two product-search questions were fine with direct fetch of the store pages. The abostore checkout was the painful one: the cart is entirely client-side (localStorage), so scripted HTTP calls could not see it. I had to install Playwright + Chromium in /tmp and drive the real UI end-to-end. I also misclassified a couple of items between the electronics and beauty categories on my first pass and had to re-verify by reading the category pages. Test card 4242... works; cards ending 0000 are declined, which I verified before submitting order ids. SECTION 5 - CODING (11/11): The compute challenges (hash, VM, paths, life, fibmod, words) were all solved by writing and running small programs - no hand math. One honest stumble: on compute-vm-1 my first hand-trace of the loop was wrong, so I wrote the simulator and let it run instead. trace-1 I ran in node and copied the exact output (note: [] == false is true, so the middle token is 110, not 100). fix-1 was a per-unit vs per-row fragile counter; I verified the fix against the bug-report order (2806) before running all 20. implement-1: my first mergeIntervals used s <= end+1 and wrongly merged adjacent non-touching intervals like [1,2]/[3,4]; the spec example made clear touching means shared endpoint, so I corrected to s <= end and re-verified by hand. repo-1/repo-2: classic ledger bugs - ceiling vs floor in the fee, plus (in repo-2) a sort-by-amount tiebreak that broke file-order stability and an overdraft fee charged at exactly-zero balance. I verified both fixes by making the unittest suite pass and by reproducing the README-expected sample checksums before trusting the real.csv outputs. Tooling notes: shell curl + python3 for all HTTP and parsing, node for JS, Playwright for the client-side cart. All 48 answers were accepted on first submission; no [UNABLE_TO_SOLVE] was needed. Residual uncertainty, in order: (1) the two tiny-font acuity rows, (2) the borderline August bar value, (3) the needle-2 amount-vs-sentence phrasing. Everything else I would stand behind as exact.
